In-vivo dental diagnostic systems

Inspektor recent research activities are focused on the development of quantitative dental diagnostic tools for use in the clinical dental practice. Quantitative assessment of dental caries lesions, plaque, calculus, and staining are easy to obtain with Inspektor's diagnostic systems.

Dental diagnostic systems for in-vivo use

QLF™, Quantitative Light-induced Fluorescence  is a simple yet effective way to reveal lesions in teeth – long before they become big enough to need filling. When these potential cavities are identified early enough, teeth can be encouraged to repair themselves. Particularly interesting about this technique is that the degree of damage to the enamel  is measurable by including a small video sensor in the system and by wiring the whole thing up to a computer. In this way it is possible to collect digital images of each tooth, which can then both be visualized on the screen and analyzed for the amount of enamel-loss. It is the perfect tool to be used at the oral-hygienist's place of work. It will give the patient information on what's happening with his or her teeth. If you can follow what is happening in a stage where you still can repair your tooth by non-destructive means, it might be very useful for many people. We've seen in many patients that after carefully following brushing instructions, caries lesions regress – that is: lesions in their teeth became smaller.

The system comprises of a special intra-oral camera with which dental images can be captured and stored on the PC in real time. The PC software allows for fast and easy data assessment: it takes about 10 minutes to capture all tooth surfaces in a complete set of teeth. The images show dental caries lesions, plaque formation and stains in a much more clear way than any other visual method. Also its ability to quantify the severity of these affections makes it a very useful tool to follow the dental health of a patient over time.
