PDMS-Doctors orders

Issue

Doctors orders

Under the doctors orders, all medical treatment can be entered, split up over 15 categories. While entering data, PDMS offers a continually updated prognosis of the total intake of the patient in terms of fluid, calories, aminoacids, lipids and electrolytes.
The doctors orders can be viewed and printed without restrictions but only authorised users are allowed to change them.
Built into the doctors orders is a version protocol that allows for complete periodical review of the existing orders. This forces the user to go through all standing orders to confirm or modify them. In between these reviews, individual orders can be modified or terminated.
For each order, the history of that order can be viewed. For most categories, the doctors orders are integrated with ordermanagement that can be used to place orders for other departments (e.g. pharmacy, CITO laboratory).
Central on intensive care units is the use of ventilators. PDMS can support any type of ventilator.
Currently work is being done to generate todolists for the nursing staff that can be viewed and ticked off at the bed-side. This would remove the need to print the doctors orders and the todo-list.
Also a study is underway to integrate protocols with PDMS. This will make it possible to fill in doctors orders in a way that is structured by one or more protocols that apply to the patient. This will be especially useful for neonatal units where the number of different diagnosis and treatment is generally less diverse than in general intensive cares.
